Cherokees of Northern Central Valley (CNCV)

Proposed By-Laws Revisions:

Information for Membership Voting

Background:

Our CNCV By-Laws state that they will be reviewed and approved by our Board annually. In our review, we found opportunities for improvement. A By-Laws workgroup met to discuss the current By-Laws at length and suggested revisions were thoughtfully drafted to meet our growing community needs. These revisions were approved by the CNCV Board and then approved by the Cherokee Nation Community and Cultural Outreach (CCO) Office administration.

Changes:

The changes consist of five themes: (1) updating for currency, (2) simplifications to improve clarity, (3) adjustment to board member roles to better reflect current practice and efforts, (4) codifying supportive training and transition for incoming board members, and (5) rewording for readability and consistent third-person voice.

Voting:

We will be voting on this at our October 17, 2026 meeting. Paid CNCV members may vote on proposed amendments and must be present to vote. An affirmative vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the ballots cast are needed to approve an amendment.

If you are a CNCV member, please review the By-Laws Draft, via the button link below, and come ready to discuss and vote in October.
