CHAIRPERSON MESSAGE: July 2025

ᎣᏏᏲ ᏂᎦᏛ osiyo nigad! (hello, everyone!)

ᎪᎨᏱ gogeyi (summer) is in full swing!

We had a very memorable recent visit from our Sister City, Marble City Activity Organization, complete with a ceremony, plaque dedication, BBQ, and grape dumplings. It was a beautiful weekend spent in community together. We are grateful to everyone who could participate. See more below.

We hope to see you at our CNCV Annual Campout held August 1-3. If you plan to stay, make sure to make your reservations before July 25! Let us know how many you will be coming with by emailing cncv.communications@gmail.com or marking that you’re going on our Facebook event.

We are proud to announce that the CNCV has been selected as the Organization of the Year! This recognition honors the heart, dedication, and teamwork shown by YOU, our beloved CNCV community members. Through every gathering, study session, shared meal, and seed planted—we continue to live the Cherokee value of ᎦᏚᎩ gadugi, working together for the good of our people. Wado to each and every one of you who contributes your time, talents, and heart to this work. This award is for all of us.

Also this month:

  • Our garden continues growing seeds for the community - We have been expanding our gardening efforts with our Harvesting our Heritage program and offer helpful information and updates from the garden. I have been growing seeds to share with you all for a few years and gave away hundreds more seed packets at our Annual Meeting on April 27th! ᏩᏙ wado to all of our gardeners! Please reach out with any questions while you’re growing. As it becomes increasingly difficulty to obtain seeds from the Seed Bank, our garden program, with careful attention paid to preserving genetic integrity, will get more seeds in your hands next year.

  • We share information about the importance of bison and a recipe for my Famous Bison Indian Tacos that we’ll be enjoying at our Annual Campout this August. Come visit and eat with us!

  • The power of volunteerism is clear - read about one local citizen’s epic volunteer experience with Gadugi Corps for almost three weeks on the reservation. ᏩᏙ wado to Amanda and to all volunteers who endeavor give back to their community, demonstrating our foundational community values!

  • Did you try that tasty traditional hog fry lunch we had at our April 27 Annual Event in Fairfield and wonder how they did it? Mystery solved - see the pictures here! ᏩᏙ wado to all the cooks!

  • We hosted a family-style BBQ with our special contingent of “Cherokee Argonauts” and dear friends from our sister city, Marble City Activity Organization. They taught us how to make grape dumplings!

  • We recently celebrated the completion of a special project, culminating in a bronze plaque installation and ceremony at the John Rollin Ridge Family Plot in Grass Valley. This has involved years of strategizing, planning, and preparation, highlighting the successful partnership on this project with our beloved Sister Community Marble City Activity Organization.

  • Mike Webb reflects on attending the Remember the Removal Ride Send-Off Ceremony, donates a lovingly refurbished coca cola machine to our sisters in Marble City, and gives some updates on a few of our dear community members.

  • October is election time for the CNCV. See how to get involved.

  • Do you have a question about the language? Joe Fourkiller with Cherokee Nation Gadugi Corps is available to help our community with words, phrases, and spelling! Reach out to Joe with language questions. And feel free to share what you learn with the rest of us! Contact: Joe Fourkiller at Josephc-fourkiller@cherokee.org; 918-871-9248-cell; 918-453-5000 Ext

As a reminder, the CNCV has a resource webpage for you with many informative links for citizenship, language, culture, history, health, education, veterans, and more. Let us know if you'd like to see something specifically there.

We’re looking forward to visiting together at these events throughout the year and enjoying community, culture, history, and language with you!
